Korat Cat Fast Facts
The Korat cat breed is a rare cat breed. Known for its luminous green eyes and 'frosted' silver-blue coat. The cat originated from Thailand. It was known as the Si-Sawat cat and later renamed Korat after the province where these cats are thought to have originated from. In Thailand these cats are known as lucky cats. Their silver blue coat signifies wealth and their presence is thought to bring rain. Their green eyes are the color of young rice and therefore signify good crops. These cats are often given to the bride as a wedding gift as it is believed they bring good fortune and ensure fertility.

There is some debate as to when the cat was originally brought to the West. Some claim that it was first seen in London in the early 19th century and was believed to be a blue Siamese cat. Jean Johnson bought these cats to the United States in 1959, but it wasn't until 1965 that the breed was recognized.
